Finding somewhere to eat is easier when you understand what the different halal classifications mean.
UNDERSTANDING THE CLASSIFICATIONS
Not every halal-certified restaurant operates in the same way.
The Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong uses a three-tier system for certified food outlets. The distinction mainly concerns how halal food is prepared and what may be present elsewhere in the establishment.
Halal Restaurant
The kitchen, food preparation and dining areas are halal-certified. Ingredients must be verified halal, and only halal items are present in the preparation area.
Halal Kitchen Restaurant
The kitchen and preparation area are halal compliant, while the dining or serving area may contain non-halal items such as alcohol.
Halal Friendly Restaurant
Halal food may be prepared within a kitchen that also handles non-halal ingredients. Separate storage, preparation equipment and cooking areas are required to help prevent cross-contamination.
HALAL CERTIFICATION IN HONG KONG
Where our certification information comes from.
The restaurant certification information used by Halal Eats HK comes from the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong, commonly known as the Board of Trustees.
The Board conducts halal inspections and issues halal certificates under the supervision of its halal religious team. Its halal certification work covers Hong Kong as well as Macau and some parts of China.
The organization was incorporated as a charitable organization in Hong Kong in 1970 and also manages mosques, cemeteries and other services for Hong Kong's Muslim community.
